An exhibition of our pupils’work remembering 1916 was held in school on Sunday, April 10th. This was part of the commemorative event held at Myode House earlier on Sunday afternoon. A commemorative stone was unveiled at Myode House to remember those who were part of the rising in Galway on Easter week of 1916. A large crowd visited the school to see the wonderful artwork and projects which our children had been working on over the past few weeks. Here are some photos from the day:

Proclamation Day March 15th
On Tuesday March 15th we celebrated Proclamation Day 2016. On a beautiful morning all our pupils and staff commemorated the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rebellion. We gathered in front of the school where pupils read the proclamation, spoke about the seven leader of the rising and played Amhrán na Bhfiann. The Irish Flag was raised by the youngest and oldest pupils. Here are some photos from our Proclamation Day 2016:
1916 Commemoration / Comóradh 1916
Thursday, 3rd December
As part of the Ireland 2016 State Commemoration Programme our school received a special visit from the defence forces on Thursday December 4th. Lieutenant Paul Dunne from the Athlone Barracks visited our school. He presented the school with the National Flag and also a copy of the 1916 Proclamation. Lieutenant Dunne delivered a pack to our school containing a booklet on how to care for the National Flag, information on the Ireland 2016 Programme and a poster of Amhrán na Bhfiann. Lieutenant Dunne had an excellent question and answer session with the pupils about the National Flag and army life in general. A pupil from 6th class read the fourth paragraph of the proclamation to the group. The National Flag and Proclamation were presented to pupils from Junior Infants. 6th class played the National Anthem on the tin whistle. We have been busy learning about our National flag and the 1916 rising in preparation for this special visit.
