P.E. in 3rd class

3rd Class have been working on developing good running skills and learning about staying healthy.  They have been practising finding and recording their heart rate (beats per minute/BPM) and have been comparing their BPM before and after exercise.

Today’s homework:

  1. Before running: Record in your homework journal your heart rate BPM by setting a timer to 1 minute and counting how many beats your heart makes in that time.
  2. Run to a fast paced song e.g. Sensitive Guy by Busted.  Songs cannot be posted here for Copyright reasons but there are plenty of great running songs online (run a safe search on www.kidrex.org to find many great running songs).
  3. After running: Record in your homework journal your heart rate BPM by setting a timer to 1 minute and counting how many beats your heart makes in that time.
  4. Most importantly, have fun!

Our Girls’ Football Panel in Cappataggle.

Our girls’ football team took part in the INTO Mini-7’s competition on Tuesday in Cappataggle.  The girls played some great football and were unlucky not to qualify from their group.  They had victories over Leitrim N.S. and Aughrim N.S. and were narrowly beaten by Kilconnell N.S. and Gaelscoil Riada, Athenry.  Well done to all our players for putting in a great effort on the day!

Safer Internet Day 2016.

On Tuesday February 9th our school are celebrated ‘Safer Internet Day 2016’.  Safer Internet Day is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It is promoted in Ireland by the PDST Technology in Education and Webwise.  Garda Eamon Donohue from Athenry Garda station visited school this week and spoke to the pupils about staying safe on-line and about cyber-bullying.  Garda Eamon also answered the pupils’ questions about internet safety and also about life as a Garda.
