Congratulations to the following children who were awarded their merit certificates and medals for their books which they wrote as part of this year’s Galway Education Centre Write a Book Project.
The children from Senior Infants to 6th class took part in this project. This project enables primary school children to become real authors as they create their own books by actively engaging in the processes of writing, composing, constructing, designing, illustrating and presenting their work to a wide audience. The competition was very tough with hundreds of children from across Galway city and county taking part. Well done to all our pupils who wrote wonderful books for this project.
An exhibition of our pupils’work remembering 1916 was held in school on Sunday, April 10th. This was part of the commemorative event held at Myode House earlier on Sunday afternoon. A commemorative stone was unveiled at Myode House to remember those who were part of the rising in Galway on Easter week of 1916. A large crowd visited the school to see the wonderful artwork and projects which our children had been working on over the past few weeks. Here are some photos from the day:
On Tuesday March 15th we celebrated Proclamation Day 2016. On a beautiful morning all our pupils and staff commemorated the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rebellion. We gathered in front of the school where pupils read the proclamation, spoke about the seven leader of the rising and played Amhrán na Bhfiann. The Irish Flag was raised by the youngest and oldest pupils. Here are some photos from our Proclamation Day 2016:
